ADA stands for “Americans with Disabilities Act.” It refers to a 1990 US Federal Law, as well as subsequent laws, that prohibit ableist discrimination. To ensure ADA compliance, signs must be legible to all to comply with federal, state, and municipal ADA laws.
According to the National Federation of the Blind, there are 86,500 Minnesotans who have a visual disability of some kind. It’s fair to assume that a plurality, if not a majority of them, live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area. In Wisconsin, there are 110,300 with visual disabilities and that number is 60,700 in Iowa. Without signs that are easily readable, your business or organization cannot serve these hundreds of thousands of possible customers. And, worse still, you could be fined for not having ADA signs.
To be in ADA compliance, signs must display large fonts. They must avoid using color combinations that are indistinguishable to the color blind and they can incorporate braille.
We can inform you which federal, state, and municipal ADA laws and regulations might apply to your business and then design signs that comply with those laws.
